My history dates back to ancient times. The first known inhabitants of my territory were the Kadambas, who ruled over Goa from the 4th to the 11th centuries. After the Kadambas, Goa was ruled by a succession of dynasties, including the Chalukyas, the Rashtrakutas, and the Vijayanagara Empire.

In 1510, the Portuguese arrived in Goa and established a colony. The Portuguese ruled over Goa for over 450 years, and their influence is still evident in my culture, architecture, and cuisine.

In 1961, Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule and became part of India. Since then, I have developed into a popular tourist destination, known for my beautiful beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and eclectic mix of cultures.

Today, I am home to a diverse population of over 600,000 people. My economy is based on tourism, agriculture, and fishing. I am also a major center for education and research.

I am proud of my rich history and culture. I am also proud of my natural beauty and my people. I am South Goa District, and I am a land of many wonders.

History:

South Goa’s most beautiful beaches & off beat things to do! W/ Tanya Khanijow

My history is as diverse as my culture. I have been ruled by many different dynasties over the centuries, each of which has left its own unique mark on my landscape.

The Kadambas, who ruled over Goa from the 4th to the 11th centuries, were responsible for building some of my most iconic temples, such as the Shri Mahadev Temple in Tambdi Surla and the Shri Mahalaxmi Temple in Ponda.

The Chalukyas, who ruled over Goa from the 11th to the 13th centuries, built many forts and fortifications, such as the Aguada Fort in Sinquerim and the Cabo de Rama Fort in Canacona.

The Rashtrakutas, who ruled over Goa from the 8th to the 10th centuries, were responsible for building many irrigation canals and tanks, which helped to improve agriculture in the region.

The Vijayanagara Empire, which ruled over Goa from the 14th to the 16th centuries, built many temples and mosques in the region, such as the Shri Shantadurga Temple in Ponda and the Jama Masjid in Margao.

The Portuguese arrived in Goa in 1510 and established a colony. The Portuguese ruled over Goa for over 450 years, and their influence is still evident in my culture, architecture, and cuisine.

The Portuguese built many churches and cathedrals in Goa, such as the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa and the Se Cathedral in Old Goa. They also built many forts and fortifications, such as the Fort of Reis Magos in Bardez and the Fort of Cabo de Rama in Canacona.

In 1961, Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule and became part of India. Since then, I have developed into a popular tourist destination, known for my beautiful beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and eclectic mix of cultures.

My cuisine is a reflection of my diverse culture. I am known for my seafood dishes, such as fish curry and rice and prawns masala. I am also known for my Portuguese dishes, such as vindaloo and caldeirada.
